World Youth Guitar Festival

Described as ‘a unique event’ whose ‘importance can not be overstated’ by ACOUSTIC magazine, the World Youth Guitar Festival is a 4 day event for classical guitarists aged 8-18 of any ability. Students are coached by a team of inspirational international tutors and mentors and WYGF09 was host to 240 participants from 7 countries. To find out more please visit our WYGF website

WYGF takes place every two years and its major focus is on ensemble playing. Each student is integrated into one of the WYGF guitar orchestras which are graded to ability so that nobody feels out of their depth. WYGF gives students the experience of playing in an ensemble helping them to improve all areas of their musicianship, which many other instrumentalists develop naturally in orchestras, chamber music ensembles or jazz bands. WYGF is a great place to meet like-minded young musicians and enjoy music-making together.

As part of the events at WYGF there is the WYGF International Recital Series which is open to the general public. Special guests have included Gary Ryan (UK), VIDA Guitar Quartet (UK), Martha Masters (USA), Brad Richter (USA), Graham Devine (UK), Eden Stell Guitar Duo (UK)
